Like straight out of a movie scene, Amanda and Steve met at their friend’s wedding while playing the roles of Bridesmaid and Groomsman. The two got married early this year in the heart of Orlando, surrounded by Amanda’s 2 sons and 25 of their closest friends in their very intimate Kate Spade inspired wedding.
About the Intimate Kate Spade Inspired Wedding
“We got engaged in October of 2015 and I had already started planning our, ok my, dream wedding. Fall, Georgia, beautiful southern style wedding with a Kate spade twist. Put down a few deposits and started the detail planning… All the while Steven is constantly replying to my attempts to include him in this planning process with “we wouldn’t have to worry about that if we eloped”. After hearing that a few too many times and the costs kept rising, I really put some thought into it. A couple days of bouncing ideas off my best friend and convincing myself I could do it, I shared my thoughts with my fiancé. After he decided I was was serious and not crazy, New Year’s Day we decided to elope.
We called our parents, grandparents, siblings and best friends and broke the news of our decision, with the condition of keeping it a secret. We decided since we were leaving so many of our favorite people out, we wanted to surprise everyone with the news at once. The shocked-face selfies after we were pronounced husband and wife took everyone by surprise!
So then the crash-planning began. In two weeks I planned an intimate wedding at Dickson Azalea Park in Orlando, Florida followed by a lunch reception at 310 Lakeside, also in downtown Orlando. I managed to keep my Kate Spade theme with gold and navy blue as my color scheme.
I purchased my “wedding dress” at Bloomingdale’s and even had it altered to a V-neck within our short time period. My jewelry consisted of Kate Spade studs, a Kate Spade bridal gold bangle bracelet and a costume jewelry necklace from Macy’s. Steven had a navy suit already, we only purchased him a gold tie. My two sons were dressed in khaki pants, white button downs and navy dot ties.
Since we only had our closest, favorite people in attendance, we chose not to have a bridal party. My boys walked me down the aisle and my brother became ordained online (barely in the nick of time) and performed our ceremony. We all laughed the entire way though, it was perfect! Our photographer did a great job catching the humor in our expressions throughout the ceremony.” – Amanda
About the Couple
“We met in March of 2014 at our best friends wedding! Yep, straight out of a movie scene… Bridesmaid and Groomsman turned husband and wife! We had never met prior and my best friend was adamant that she set us up. Neither of us thought anything more than the participation in their wedding, seeing no chance in a future relationship. We managed to exchange numbers and slowly began texting and dating and soon found ourselves in a loving relationship, all without ever talking on the phone.
More about the Intimate Kate Spade Inspired Wedding
“Speaking of photographers, I had originally booked a photographer for that fall Georgia wedding, who was not available and for our elopement; but she referred us to others, who also weren’t available. Thankfully, one of them was kind enough to post our needs to a Facebook group and that’s how we landed the amazingly talented Allison Bolsega Photography. For being so last minute, she was a pleasure to work with and we were more than happy with our photographs. Our location provided a perfect backdrop for all of our beautiful photos, of course along with our Mr. and Mrs. Kate Spade balloon props.
Wedding rings! That was almost a failure, but we were luckily able to get wedding bands (on loan) for our wedding day. Steven’s band arrived Friday prior to the wedding and mine didn’t arrive until after the wedding. Thankfully, the jewelers were able to loan me the sample ring for our wedding day. We’d like to thank the amazing Genna Jewelers in Viera, FL for being so amazing and keeping me from near panic attacks.
Wedding Planning Advice
“Our family and friends were shocked by our decision, but so very happy for us! We saved so much money and couldn’t be happier! I have no regrets about forgoing the “big, fancy wedding” and I encourage everyone to go our route. There were many things I wanted in our original wedding plan that we couldn’t afford when considering 100+ guests.
In the end I want brides-to-be to know that you can still have a dream wedding, with all you want, but just on a smaller, more intimate level.” – Amanda
