Snowy Christmas Wedding | Karyn Johnson Photography

When: December 19, 2015 | Where: Virginia | Theme: Christmas, Holiday, Snow | Colors: Red, Green

With Christmas being Kathryn’s favorite holiday and knowing weddings were more budget friendly in the winter months, Kathryn decided to have a Christmas wedding. Kathryn and John had their snowy Christmas wedding at the Mountain Lake Lodge which is where the movie “Dirty Dancing” was filmed and where the two had their first date.

Mountain Lake Lodge is the perfect, cozy spot in the winter time with it’s stone fireplaces, hot cups of jo, and its amazing mountain views. Having their wedding just days before Christmas, they decided to make everything holiday themed. Multiple Christmas trees were placed around the venue along with bunches of evergreen garland, winter berries, and classic red roses.

But something happened that they couldn’t plan: snow. After an incredibly mild winter, the night before their wedding, it snowed. A thin layer of white powder blanketed the ground which made their wedding day even more magical. It was the perfect backdrop for their portraits and a fun addition for guests. Their wedding day was even more beautiful than they could have planned and it was the perfect winter celebration just before Christmas.

About the Couple – Proposal Story

“Surprisingly, there is no proposal story. I knew John was the man for me after about 3 months of dating. We were together for a year and a half when we struck up a serious conversation about marriage (we had talked about marriage on and off throughout the relationship). During this conversation we decided to just go ahead and do it. We went the next day and picked out rings. John allowed me to pick my 2 favorites, and then I left so he could surprise me! For us, it’s the perfect proposal story!” – Kathryn

Wedding Planning Advice

“1. Shop around for the best prices. 2. If you are having the wedding in an area known for snow, plan for snow! 3. Don’t forget your shoes (the groom had to drive to our home an hour away on the day of our wedding to get my shoes).” – Kathryn
